A Walking Tour of Chichester

Frances Farrer-Brown entertained us with her excellent virtual tour of Chichester at our May meeting. As a blue badge tour guide Frances was able to tell us plenty of interesting little details about the city that we all think we know so well. Her talk was a great combination of social history - was Kent invaded or was it Sussex? - with anecdotes about the great buildings in and around Chichester - luckily the Cathedral tower collapsed vertically doing very little damage to the rest of the building! She took us to the Roman city walls, monastic remains in Priory Park and to the foremost modern art collection in the country at Pallant House. Not forgetting, of course, the very special roost for the peregrine falcons above the Cathedral Bell Tower which is surrounded with post holes for the market stalls that sold trinkets to Pilgrims.
